Summary

10 Rules for Understanding IEPs and Special Education for Family Lawyers

Speakers: Dennis C. McAndrews, Esquire and Rachel Rosenberg, Esquire

Nearly 20% of students are identified with a disability and have an Individualized Education Plan (IEP). As family law practitioners, we will inevitably become involved with families which include one or more children with IEPs or who should be receiving appropriate IEP services. The complexity of the special education system can be daunting to navigate for attorneys and courts alike.

By developing a solid understanding of the IEP process and the basic entitlement to necessary services, family law attorneys can empower their clients to address their child needs, in school and in the courtroom.

This program with walk us through the special education process, and answer the who, what, where, when, and why of special education issues we may all encounter in custody matters.
