Summary

This program provides a timely update on significant federal and Pennsylvania tax developments affecting individuals, fiduciaries, and advisors. We will review key provisions of the new federal tax legislation, including the introduction of so-called “Trump Accounts,” updated electronic payment and reporting requirements, and important changes to itemized deductions — with particular attention to revised rules governing charitable contributions and the SALT deduction. The session will also address the growing importance of Online IRS Accounts for both individuals and fiduciaries, highlighting practical considerations for compliance, monitoring, and client protection. We will examine recent case law and administrative developments, including the implications of Kwong and disaster-related deadline extensions, as well as Pennsylvania’s recent changes to its grantor trust rules and the resulting planning considerations for estate and income tax purposes. Finally, we will discuss Donor Advised Funds in light of Peterson v. Christian Community Foundation, Inc., analyzing governance, donor intent, and fiduciary considerations for charitable planning. Attendees will leave with practical insights and strategic considerations to better advise clients in a rapidly evolving regulatory landscape.
